What is COVID-19?
COVID-19 is the disease caused by the novel coronavirus known as SARS-CoV-2. Around 80% of people develop mild symptoms and recover from the disease without the need for hospital treatment; 15% develop a severe illness requiring oxygen support, and 5% reach a critical condition and require intensive care hospitalization.
Among the complications that can lead to death are respiratory failure, acute respiratory distress syndrome, sepsis and septic shock, and multiple organ failure, which can result in heart, liver, and kidney damage.
Research: Preclinical studies in a bleomycin-induced pulmonary fibrosis model have demonstrated a reduction in innate lymphoid cells, as well as in markers related to tissue damage. Clinical studies in COVID-19 patients showed a decrease in evaluated inflammatory parameters, as well as a rapid recovery of respiratory symptoms.
Our commitment: To reduce mortality in patients with respiratory infections by decreasing inflammation and pulmonary fibrosis.
